ACTIVITIES
There is a wide range of activities that can take place in community green spaces. Here are just a selection of ideas - you can be as creative as you wish! Let us know via our contact page of others that could be added.
Using outdoor spaces for physical fitness:
Parklives Swansea - offering free activity sessions in local parks, sessions with everything from basketball to seafront walks and runs, skateboarding, cycling and basketball.
Sport Wales - national organisation responsible for developing and promoting sport and physical activity in Wales.
Nature therapy for learning difficulties, mental and emotional wellbeing:
There are currently no projects taking place in the Swansea area (tell us if you know otherwise). We are working to develop such a service. Please get in touch if you can offer support. so here are links to projects elsewhere.
Stackpole Walled Gardens Pembrokehire - run by Mencap Pembrokeshire, provide work experience and horticultural training to adults and young people with learning disabilities.
Thrive - UK's leading charity using social and therapeutic horticulture to transform lives.
Food growing:
Swansea Council Food and Growing - advice and guidance on food growing at individual and community level.
Swansea Community Growing Network - promotes and supports community growing in Swansea.
Social Farms and Gardens Wales - Social Farms & Gardens in Wales currently run programmes that cover a wide area of work to support and promote community growing in Wales.
Wildlife habitats:
Wildlife Trust of South & West Wales - working to create and maintain wildlife rich habitats to help them keep them healthy and safe for the future.
Community woodlands/edible hedgerows:
Llais y Goedwig - supporting the creation and development of community woodlands across Wales.
Coeden Fach - local community tree nursery that can supply & provide guidance on planting of native trees and shrubs for eating or wildlife.
Cultural Activities:
Art by the Sea - runs a series of outdoor activities to educate and inspire children and communities, enhancing natural creativity and well being, through environmental art.
Arts Council of Wales - source of funding for range of cultural activities. Previous outdoor projects having included sculpture trails, outdoor theatre, multi-cultural festivals, dance performances and more.
