SITE SURVEY
Carrying out a site survey is about taking a closer look at the site in its current state to assess its potential for your activity. The needs of your activity will determine what is required and whether those needs are present or could be provided with the resources that you have access to.
You may find it useful to look at our site checklist, if you haven't already done so. The following list is not exhaustive and it may be necessary to seek the services of a professional surveyor.

Existing characteristics
- Topography - is the site flat or on a slope?
- Aspect - is it sunny or shaded?
- Sheltered or exposed?
- Vegetation - any invasive species?
- Any hazardous plants?
- Soil - depth, type, pH?
- Wildlife - any protected species on site?
- Services - overhead or underground cables, drains, pipes etc?
- Structures - buildings, walls etc. - listed, dangerous?
- Paths/steps - loose, slippery?
- Water features - risk of drowning?
- Site history - risk of contamination/hidden dangers?
- Any other hazards?
